Equator Village Spa

How lovely to get off a flight, reach your hotel, check out the Spa and get booked in straight away for a 90 minute massage! This is exactly what happened on my most recent trip to Equator Village in Gan in Southern Maldives.

The Spa here is small but lovely. Straightway upon entering, I spied a bunch of brochures in a variety of different languages which was a lovely touch for the variety of nationalities visiting here.

As I was deciding what to treat myself to, the therapist Sheela, a lovely mature Indian lady came into reception and helped me to choose a 90 minute Marma Body Mind and Spirit Massage. Best of all there was a special offer of 30% off! I explained that I wanted a deep pressure massage to work out all the muscle tension so she recommended to include a foot massage. Not not my feet to be massaged but she was going to use her feet to massage me! Now I was intrigued!

When I went into the treatment room, she asked me to lie on the floor mattress where there was a rope dangling overhead. I did as I was told and then she drizzled a lovely aromatic herbal oil over my body and proceeded to massage me using her right foot while holding onto the rope for balance! What was lovely was that she was able to get a good pressure and massage the length of one side of my body from shoulder to ankle in one sweeping movement! A first for me and very enjoyable!

After this “foot massage”, Sheela then asked me to move onto the massage couch where she performed the marma point massage which was deeply relaxing. At one stage I was drifting in and out of sleep and just cocooned in the energy of the treatment-bliss!

Following this, she applied a herbal body mask and left me to relax for a few minutes while the mask worked its magic. Then I had to rinse it off in the private outdoor shower in the sun, how lovely! At a special price of $99, this is really good value for a lovely relaxing marma point massage. Unfortunately as I was there on business, I didn’t get a chance to try another treatment before I left, next time!
