If your Windows 10 installation has failed, your system will affect its functioning. There are some fixes to solve the error. It’s the most reported issue by the Windo Subscriptions ws user. The same problem occurs in Windows 10, Windows 10 Education, Windows 10 Home, N versions, and Windows 10 Pro. In this article, we’ll discuss how you fix Windows 10 Installation Failed issue. 



How to fix the “Windows 10 Installation Has Failed” error?
Windows 10 Installation Failed means your Windows can’t install its update. In such cases, you will need to apply some fixes shown below. Below, you can find out workable solutions. 

Try These Fixes –

1- Disconnect the Peripheral Devices


If you have connected any additional hardware devices to your system, it may cause a “Windows 10 Installation Failed” error. Hence, remove these devices like printers, headphones, USB flash drives, scanner speakers, or external HDDs.  

If the installation goes smoothly with unplugged devices, you can plug back these items.

2- Check the Minimum Requirement 
When the minimum system requirements for the update do not meet, it’ll not download or install the update. Here are the minimum system requirements tha your system should follow-

Processor: 1 (GHz) or faster processor 
RAM: 1 GB (32-bi)t 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later having WDDM 1.0 driver
If your Windows 10 system is following minimum system requirements and the Windows installation is not running, you should go for another fix.

3- Clear Language Packs on Windows 10 
Windows 10 users should check the Language Settings menu if Windows 10 installation has failed recently. The in-built or additional language packs may stop your system from installation. Therefore try this –

Go to the start menu and open Language settings from the search bar.


Scroll down the Windows Language menu.
Set the language you prefer, for example – English (United States). 


Scroll down and click remove to clear other languages.    


Restart your system to see if you can install the windows OS or not.
Also, if there is any conflict language pack, remove it.

4- Check and Remove Attributes Cache
Sometimes using, some Windows 10 installers overwrite some installation files and keep Attributes cache. Such files are located in the $WINDOWS.~BT folder. It may cause different issues, including Windows not installing and more. Clear the attributes.

Start the installation as you regularly used to do.
Navigate to the end screen before the installation start.
The screen will inform to installation and the settings.    
Minimize the installer. 
Open Local Disk C and open File Explorer.
Find the root folder and folder $WINDOWS.~BT.
Turn on the option to see hidden files and the $WINDOWS.~BT. You can follow this – open File explorer > Hidden items > Show/hide.


Right-click on the folder you think is problematic.
Select Properties and navigate to the General tab. 
At the bottom, locate the Attributes and clear the Read-only box and system.
Apply changes and check if installation is taking place or not.    
5- Reassemble Boot Configuration Data
Windows 10 installation failed error could result from Boot Manager’s Configuration Data. So the best method to solve it is to rebuild Configuration Data. However, it may be a bit complicated, but its straight.

Search recovery in the Windows search menu. 


Open Recovery options.
Hit on Restart now under Advanced Startup.


Select the Troubleshoot option.
Click Advanced options, then choose Command Prompt.    
You may require to enter the login to your account. 
6- Clean Boot Installation
When Windows 10 installation has failed on your system, then a clean boot installation could be helpful. So, when the above methods don’t help you, use the clean Boot to find the exact cause and fix it. 

Enter msconfig in the run box (Windows + R key) or search box.
Click to open System Configuration and stay on the general tab.


Click Selective startup. 
Uncheck the Load startup items checkbox.
Open Boot and untick the Safe Boot checkbox.


Navigate to the Services tab and select the option – Hide all Microsoft services.
Click on Disable All option.


Navigate to the Startup tab and open Task Manager.
Disable all startup items and restart your Windows 10. 
7- Update Windows 10 Drivers 
Outdated, corrupted, or missing drivers in your windows 10 can stop or disturb the system while installing updates. Hence, ensure your system drivers are up-to-date; if not, use a tool to scan and udpate all drivers in one click. It prevents the “Windows 10 Installation Has Failed” error. 


Scan your Windows 10. 

If the problematic drivers appear, click Fix Now.

Within a few seconds, you’ll see which drivers need to be updated. Therefore, click Update.

Try installing windows 10 again, see if “Windows 10 Installation Failed” error.

8- Clean Junk and Fix Windows Issues   
If your Windows 10 is experiencing any issues inside, then it causes instsallation failure. Hence, you should be sure whether your windows runs perfectly or experiencing any problem. we’ll use a tool to scan for any issue and fix it.  

Launch the tool.
Click Fix Issues Now button and wait for the system scan.

Click Fix Now to solve the issues.

You can also use Windows tools to fix the different problems in Windows 10. 

9- Start SFC and DISM scans 
If system file corruption is the one reason for the installation failed issue in Windows 10, then you should run DISM and SFC. It can repair corrupted system files. However, if installing the eSoftsafe PC cleaner resolves your installation issue, you don’t need to use this Fix.  

Both programs repair it in different ways. Here’s how to perform it;

Use Windows + R keys to open the run dialogue box.
Enter CMD and hit enter to open the command prompt.
Click Yes and initiate the SFC scan using the sfc /scannow command.
Restart your PC.
Again, repeat steps 1 and 2 to open cmd for DISM scan.
Enter DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command.
Restart your system again after the DISM scan.
