The Flying Scotsman Gets Its New Name, Opening Set For June This Year

The closing down of The Flying Scotsman at the onset of the pandemic came as a shock to many, with the Mount Lawley pub being a beloved watering over the years.

Later on in 2020 came news that Three Pound Group (The Stables, The Revely, The Camfield) had acquired the venue, and now we have news on what’s to come for the Beaufort Street location.

Set to open in June of this year, the iconic site will be called The Elford, named after George H Elford, who owned the 1909 Wine Saloon that opened on Beaufort Street.

It will be the latest iteration from a pub that’s changed hands many times over the decades, at one point or another being a Moondyne Joes, the Cat & Fiddle and the Candy Store Bar up until the Scotto.

Three Pound Group Operations Manager Saul Brockwell said the vibe will be in line with the neighbouring Clarke’s Building’s art deco design across the two-storey, and will include an upgrade of the alfresco area.

“We are working closely with our architects and interior designers to pay homage to the iconic art deco architecture of the building but putting a relaxed contemporary spin on it…

“Mount Lawley locals will have a feast of live music, comedy and quiz nights, complemented with a great beverage program paired with pub classics from our acclaimed culinary team led by executive chef Ben Keal.”

It comes after news of further hospitality revitalisation along the Beaufort St strip, with The Old Synagogue team transforming the empty Empire Warehouse space into a multi-storey venue later this year.
