Is there anything better than fish and chips from the local takeaway shop on a warm summer’s night? We’re just gonna go ahead and say, no. And with that grand sweeping statement out there in the balmy summer air, here’s some of the best joints to pick your’s up over the coming months:
Grand Lane Fish House
Tucked away on Grand Lane behind Barrack Street in the city might just be Perth’s best fish and chip joint. Their fish tacos are huge, and everything is super-well priced. Irresistible city lunch spot.
Woodlands Fish & Chips
What they lack in pizzazz Woodlands Fish and Chips more than make up for it with flavour and serving size. Always well-staffed with friendly faces to handle even the busiest nights, it’s a western suburbs fave for a reason.
Stone Jetty Fish Market
A fish monger and fish and chip shop in the same building?! Kind of, although Stony Jetty ain’t your average fish and chip shop – offering boutique servings with a styling that feels very gourmet yet very accessible. They’ll sell you ready-made meals you just need to take home and whack in the oven, like Red Spot Emperor with garlic and paprika butter, olives, tomato, potato and white wine, all in a pretty parcel for one.
Clancy’s Fish Pub
Across all three locations in Freo, City Beach and Canning Bridge (and Dunsborough for our down south folk), Clancy’s have been keeping families well fed and watered for years. Freo and City Beach are great to take the kids, and there’s something happening every night of the week.
The British Chippy
Given Perth’s strong ex-pat contingent, it’s no wonder The British Chippy is the favourite of many of our northern suburbs friends. They’ve got a few interesting options (battered burger, haggis anyone?) that’ll keep you coming, but its their commitment to the traditional British fish and chip that keeps ’em coming back.
