We’re past the point now of making fun of people who need their food sans gluten right? If you or someone you know is celiac, you’ll understand the pain (and long term health issues) of eating the wrong stuff, so it’s good to know Perth’s restaurant scene understands it too.
The majority of Perth eateries will have some form of gluten-free option at least somewhere on the menu, but for the purpose of this list we’ve tried to focus on places where you or your gluten-free date/mate gets the pick of the bunch, and aren’t regulated to the side salads section. We’ve also not included Japanese restaurants, because they’ll need a whole article of their own (AND HERE IT IS).
The Standard
Not only is The Standard home to one of Perth’s best beer gardens, their menu is home to a seriously fantastic selection of gluten free options to choose from. Most of the extensive menu is vego and gluten free, and with options like crispy fried pork belly (below), shredded duck, NW jumbo tiger prawns, Korean fried cauliflower and pan roasted octopus, there’s no doubt they’re setting the gold standard in GF dining around Perth.
el PÚBLICO
One of a bunch of Mexican-themed restaurantés that popped up when it was the done thing a few years back, el PÚBLICO has endured because quite simply, it is awesome. Their tequila selection is amazing (and won’t destroy you the next day), and basically the entire menu is gluten free, great for sharing, and delicious.
Alfred’s Pizzeria
A lot of Perth pizza joints are happy to rock the GF-base these days, but it’s hard to go past Alfred’s, who make their’s fresh in-house. Tucked away in a downstairs basement, it’s the perfect setting for both an intimate night, or really letting your hair down with rock’n’roll vibes a-plenty.
