After spending few days in Varanasi, we are on our way to our next destination,AGRA, the home of the Beautiful Taj Mahal. The night train ride to Agra is about 9 hours, that is of course without delays. Now that we are in the North of India, the ride would definitely be very cold. But before that let me eat some chicken biryani. I was so happy we found this little place who serves chicken biryani at the train station. I always tell Rob when I am easily irritated by something, then I am probably "hangry", I should eat something and then everything will be ok.😜😜😜
AGRA is a city along the banks of the river Yamuna. It is the 24th most populous city in India.Agra features a semiarid climate that borders on a humid subtropical climate. The city features mild winters, hot and dry summers and a monsoon season. So if you are planning to go here, prepare your thick clothes and jackets because it gets very cold in the evening.
Agra is included in the Golden Triangle tourist circuit which includes New Delhi and Jaipur. It is one of the most visited tourist destinations in India thanks to its many Mughal-era buildings which includes the Taj Mahal, the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri which are all UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
We arrived in Agra in the afternoon. We took a taxi going to the place where the Taj Mahal is located. The taxi driver brought us to a hotel that was 800 Rupees a night. It was ok,big and comfortable with hot and cold shower inside. They also have a roof deck where their restaurant is located, where you can relax and look at the Taj from afar.
We decided to visit the Taj the next day.
THE TAJ MAHAL
There's a long line of people going to the Taj. For a foreigner you pay 1000 Rupees to get inside.
I could hardly contain my excitement as i wait for my turn in a long line of people to enter the doors of the Taj Mahal. Because Rob is a spur of the moment traveller, and he has been to India for the third time already and also to the TAJ, I wasn't expecting that we will be heading to Agra until we bought that train tickets 2 days before our departure.
When I finally made it through the line,I could not not be amazed by the beauty of the Taj Mahal and even by the vast number of visitors that surrounds it, its grandeur definitely stoods out.As I look at it in amazement in a far distance I wonder how great is the love of the Sultan to his wife Mahal to create such a beauty.
What a great feeling to be able to see in person one of the wonders of the world. To look at it and get to experience it in person is one of the reasons why we travel. To be able to experience and savor the feeling of it first hand. What a wonderful experience to gaze upon the majestic beauty of one of the seven wonders of the world, The Taj Majal in Agra. Our memories at The Taj Mahal will never be forgotten (12-28-2016).
A lot of history, culture and architecture are influenced by someone's love.May it be a love for a person like the Taj Mahal, love for a higher being like churches and temples, love for food, love for country and many more.
When you decide to visit India, the Taj Mahal should be included in your list. Then you can tick it off your bucket list, visiting one of the 7 wonders of the world.
AGRA FORT
Agra Fort is a historical fort in the city of Agra in India. It was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty till 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. The Agra fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site.It is about 2.5 km northwest of its more famous sister monument, the Taj Mahal. The fort can be more accurately described as a walled city.
At the end of his life, Shah Jahan who built the Taj Mahal, was deposed and restrained by his son, Aurangzeb, in the fort. It is rumoured that Shah Jahan died in Muasamman Burj, a tower with a marble balcony with a view of the Taj Mahal.
