Not because no one will provide you sponsored trips meaning you can’t work and travel at the same time.
Have you ever thought about living abroad? If you are an independent person and loves adventure, maybe becoming as an expat is for you!
Expatriate- a person temporarily or permanently residing in a country other than that of their citizenship.
How did I do it?
Back when I was in College, I always imagine myself being in different countries, different cities, traveling and having fun, but I can’t still afford it with my own pocket! So I promised myself that once I get a job I will travel the world. Although I haven’t traveled the world yet, but babe we’re getting there...slowly. After I graduated from my University, I went to USA to work for a year, I was able to see few big cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York City. That one year of working stopped when I went back home to see my family and realized I should go to a different country this time. I moved to UAE, where I lived for 2 years and traveled different cities & countries in between those years, with my savings I was able to go to Georgia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macau & Maldives. In the beginning of 2017, I realized 2 years were enough for UAE and I’ve decided to pass my resignation letter not knowing where to go next. I went back home again to relax a little bit and started my little travel again. This time I went to Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia. From there, I went back to UAE to pack my things and flew my one way ticket to start my work. Here I am now, an expat of Maldives, where I was able to travel few local islands such as Male (capital), Hulhumale, Vilinggili, Thoddhoo, Ukulhas, Maafushi, Kudahuvadhoo, Maaenboodhoo & Hulhudeli.
Why work abroad?
Traveling can be quite expensive for some, but if you keep on working in different countries you’d be able to live like a local and pay your bills like them. Other than that, you will be able to explore that country too! Living abroad is like hitting two birds with one stone. You’re not just earning money, you’re also giving your inner travel spirit a chance to be free.
I chose to live this way not because I wanted to be away from my family, but because I want to see the world in my own way. I wanna learn and experience someone else’s culture in a deeper level and engage with locals. Traveling isn’t just about seeing the tourist spots. I want to travel like a local.
Although my line of work doesn’t really permit me to go anytime, so I do some of my travels during my annual leaves. Something to remember if you want to travel any time, choose a job that will allow you to do that.
Where can I find work abroad?
There are plenty of trusted sites to check for an expat jobs that will suit you. It sometimes depends where you currently are, the most important thing is to make sure it’s legit. Some of the sites that you can use Linked In, Catererglobal (for hospitality careers), Work Away, Work Abroad, Bayt & Indeed.
I hope this helps.
Don’t let your dreams be just dreams. Get up and do something about it.
