I’m the Scaredy Cat, Louise. In the last four years I’ve been more than fortunate to travel to 18 countries, some more than once, plus numerous weekend breaks in the UK, but haven’t plucked up the will to put finger to iPad and share some of these incredible adventures. My brilliant partner in crime, the Aussie, has been with me on (almost) all of these, putting up with all of my foibles...
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE travel and adventure and always have. But I guess it’s fair to say I’m not a fan of heights, narrow, windy roads, deadly animals and a whole heap of other things. And I always think worst case scenario, which is massively unhelpful for the nerves and fear, but I can’t seem to change this at the moment. But to not try and overcome these and embrace the unknown would be to forgo one of my true passions in life.
So, with the Aussie by my side, alongside the more sedate travel days, I’ve experienced my first earthquake, clung to my seatbelt for dear life on one of Montenegro's most notoriously dangerous roads, been white water rafting, had a very close encounter with lions, peered into the depths of active volcanoes, enjoyed my first trip on the back of a moped and swum with manta rays after meeting dragons, to name but a few firsts - and simply awesome experiences!
Now, persuaded by friends, I’m going to try and put some of my future experiences into this blog. And, if you like them, I’ll share some of the previous ones too.
Next Friday, 26 October 2018, we’re heading off on a DIY driving trip through Botswana and Zimbabwe, flying via Johannesburg as it’s cheap. I have no idea what to expect, I’m trying not to read the scary stories about people’s arms being bitten off whilst kayaking in the Zambezi river or dodgy helicopter flights (guess what, I’ve not done either before!), so I can embrace and enjoy it in the way I want to. Wish me luck!
